The Prime Minister visited the
Games Village on Sunday.
The Prime Minister, John Howard, has given the Games Village a rave review after meeting athletes in the dining hall during a visit to the Village.
“I am tremendously impressed with the facilities,” Mr Howard said of the $90 million newly built Games Village.
“All of Australia is barracking for you,” he told a group of athletes.
“Everyone is looking forward very much to the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday night and to a wonderful couple of weeks of sport.”
Mr Howard said he was looking forward to the swimming, athletics and the rugby, and would return to Melbourne after spending time in Sydney with the Queen.
The New Zealand Commonwealth Games team has also arrived from across the Tasman, joining the 4,100 athletes and officials streaming into the Games village over the weekend.
The New Zealand Chef de Mission, Dave Currie, told the United Kingdom’s IRN News that the facilities in the Games Village are first rate and the attention to detail is the best of any games village he has been to.
