25 October 2005
Play a few games with Plan for International Children’s Week.
12 noon to 2pm – Wednesday, 26 October 2005 - City Square –Swanston Street, Melbourne.
Play a few games out of the office with Plan at the ‘World’s Biggest Play Lunch’ - an International Children’s Week event - on Wednesday, 26 October at Melbourne’s City Square.
City workers are encouraged to join Commonwealth Games athletes Loudy Tourky (Diving) and David Zalcberg (Table Tennis), Commonwealth Games mascot Karak and Plan volunteers to rediscover their inner child.
The ‘World’s Biggest Play lunch’ is part of Plan’s activities for International Children’s Week – an annual celebration, which is also part of Plan’s ‘Children are our Common Wealth’ campaign as Goodwill Partner for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Plan national executive director Ian Wishart said the World’s Biggest Play Lunch provided city workers with a chance to remember the joy of childhood – by jumping rope, playing hop scotch and building sand castles – recognising that all children have the right to a childhood.
“International Children’s Week is a fitting time for Plan to promote the importance of childhood and to raise awareness of Plan’s child centred community development work, funded by child sponsorship, in 46 developing countries,” Mr Wishart said.
Mr Wishart said Plan’s celebration of International Children’s Week heralds the start of a program of activities to encourage Victorians to leave a lasting legacy through the sponsorship of thousands of children through Plan as the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Goodwill Partner.
The 26 October commemorates the signing of the United Nations declaration of the Rights of the Child, which is the basis of all Plan’s work.
