Sam Jnr got his international breakthrough at the South Pacific Championships in 2003, where he came fourth.

He won a total of nine medals in 2005, including four gold (one senior and three junior) and four silver (all senior) and one bronze.

He has won a total of 14 career medals, including four gold, seven silver and three bronze.

He was also Eleiko 2005 (World Scholarship) Joint Winner.
