Other In 2004, Shane was suspended from cycling for six-months after he tested positive to amphetamines. He took the drug unknowingly after buying medicine in the USA that operated under the same branding as medicine in Australia but contained different ingredients. He was stripped of his gold medal in the keirin at the Junior World Championships because of the infringement.

He began cycling competitively in 1998, when he was 13 years old. He made his first Australian team in 2004.
