| Injuries | A training mishap in 2001 saw him tear ankle ligaments and he consequently went into the FINA World Championships in Japan severely restricted. Subsequent back, neck and shoulder injuries saw him miss the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and the 2003 FINA World Championships in Barcelona. |

Michael's Olympic debut was in Atlanta, 1996, as a 19-year-old.
On the comeback trail after a shocking run of injuries, Michael has the Commonwealth Games and the Beijing Olympics firmly in his sights and is aiming for a podium finish at both.
He has participated in three Olympic Games and is a former world record holder in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly.
Michael has a busy start to 2006 - he will welcome the birth of his first child in February, compete at the Games in March and then marry Lindy Rama in April.
He is confident he has overcome the horrific run of injuries he has battled over the past few years and claims his body is going really well. |
