Australia’s hopes in the Men’s Triathlon will be resting on the broad shoulders of triple world champion Peter Robertson, currently ranked 12th in the world.
Australia has never won gold in a Commonwealth or Olympic Games Triathlon, considered one of the toughest gold medals to win. The team faces strong competition in the Men’s event from New Zealand and Britain.
New Zealand’s Bevan Docherty is among the favourites, having climbed from 23rd to sixth in world rankings over the past year after taking home silver from the Athens Olympics. Fellow New Zealanders Kris Gemmell and Hamish Carter add strength to the field.
The Men’s and Women’s Commonwealth Games Triathlon will be held at St Kilda foreshore, on 18 March. The Women’s event will be run in the morning and the Men’s in the afternoon.
The Triathlon is free and non ticketed. Find out when and where to catch the Triathlon.
